The Medical Center Foundation’s 18th
Annual Medical Center Open Surpasses Goal!
Lorry
Schrage and John Darden, MD, co-chairs of the 18th
annual Medical Center Open, announced at the 19th
Hole Reception that this year’s golf tournament,
which benefits the Boys and Girls Clubs of Hall
County, raised $202,060. The tournament was
held at Chicopee Woods Golf Course.
“This
year’s goal was to raise $140,000 to benefit The
Boys and Girls Club of Hall County,” said Nancy
Colston, executive director of The Medical Center
Foundation. Proceeds will allow the Boys and Girls
Clubs to build an Outdoor Recreation Complex for the
new Joseph Walters Club to be located next to Lyman
Hall Elementary School. “To exceed our goal by this
much is tremendous,” says Colston. “Thanks to the
hard work and dedication of our volunteer committee,
the community truly embraced this project and made
the tournament a success.”
The
Boys and Girls Clubs give young people a place to
belong and a chance to learn and grow. The
activity-based programming along with organized
social recreation activities instills life-changing
habits regarding fitness and the need for physical
health to help combat the growing adolescent obesity
problem.
This
year’s Medical Center Open, sponsored by Wachovia
and The Medical Center Foundation, had nearly 200
sponsors, more than 200 players and 100 volunteers
contributing to the tournament. McGarity’s Business
Products/ Xerox Corporation sponsored the 19th Hole
Reception.
