2015 Medical Center Open Golf Tournament Planning Under Way

Teeing off for the 24th year, The Medical Center Foundation’s Annual Medical Center Open Golf Tournament is scheduled for Thursday, October 1 at Chicopee Woods Golf Course in Gainesville.

The 2015 Medical Center Open Golf Tournament is proud to support the Medical Association of Georgia (MAG) Foundation’s ‘Think About It’ campaign. 100% of the funds raised will benefit the campaign’s Project DAN (Deaths Avoided by Naloxone), which is designed to reduce widespread drug abuse and specifically reduce deaths from opioid overdose. Project DAN will benefit communities within Northeast Georgia Medical Center’s 13-county service area by:

  • Equipping law enforcement officers (LEOs) with the prescription drug naloxone (Narcan), which can reverse opioid overdose in minutes

  • Training for its use to LEOs, physicians and others as needed*

  • Providing educational materials and media support for the Georgia 9-1-1 Medical Amnesty Law, instructions on administering Overdose First Aid, and increasing public awareness of the availability of naloxone

  • Expanding promotion of the “Four Steps to Reduce Rx Drug Abuse” within medical communities

  • Donating drug drop boxes to legally qualified locations such as higher education campus security and law enforcement agencies

*Under the new Georgia 9-1-1 Medical Amnesty/Naloxone Law, physicians can now prescribe naloxone for widespread use to reverse opioid overdose. This includes any person at risk of an opioid overdose and to family members, friends or other persons in a position to assist in an opioid-related overdose.

Project DAN will work with local physicians to provide instructions to aid them in prescribing naloxone and provide training materials for its use.

The MAG Foundation ‘Think About It’ campaign is a subsidiary of MAG, the leading voice and advocate for more than 7,500 physicians in Georgia. Please visit and for more details.

Tournament co-chairs Jody Cooley and Clifton Hastings, MD are pleased to partner with Bank of America Merrill Lynch as the tournament’s premier sponsor. Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s continued support helps allow 100 percent of the golf tournament’s proceeds to go directly to the Open’s beneficiary.

Since 1997, almost $3 million has been raised for community health improvement projects by The Medical Center Foundation’s Annual Medical Center Open Golf Tournament.
